MeteoraKalambaka, the plain of Thassali and the mountains on the other side of the plain. On the rock to the left in the image is a small cave halfway up the rock (cannot be seen clearly on image) that is used for a special celebration once a year. Young men from all over different places assemble and climb the rock to hang a scarf in the cave. It looks really odd.... We passed on the road below it and saw all the colourful scarves hanging there on the rockside. This celebration is regarded as some initiationrite for the young men that manage to climb up and hang their scarfs there. |
