Pamukkale – some call it the cotton mountains – are cliffs which became white from the water running over them. They were white in 1995. I am glad I photographed them then. When I went back in 2003 most of the water was gone, it was almost totally dry, and the formerly white cliffs were then more yellow than white. At places the grass had begun to grow. Pamukkale has been almost destroyed by the tourism and the number of hotels built at the bottom of them which have stolen the water from the source to make swimminpools for the hotels.
